Wordpress How To: Setup a WordPress Photo Gallery

WordPress Photo GalleryWordPress plugins, thanks to all the dedicated and very talented developers out there, are the best thing since sliced bread when it comes to adding functionality to your WordPress site or Blog.

Photo galleries and slideshows are commonly used to showcase products and events within a site or Blog. What used to cost literally thousands of dollars to integrate or create in Flash for a static HTML Web site, now only requires installation of a plugin and your time to learn how to use it.

And, a donation to the developer if you do like the plugin and continue to use it is always highly recommended to reward them for their efforts and continued support!

Here are a couple slideshow/gallery plugins I’ve worked with and can recommend to you:

  • Featured Content Gallery: This feature rich Flash gallery is easy to integrate and very customizable. This WordPress plugin creates an automated rotating image gallery of your posts or pages for use anywhere within your theme.

Completely customizable, the Featured Content Gallery is very easy to integrate. Choose to automate the plugin and simply add a custom field to each post or page you want to display and the gallery will show the image, an auto-generated thumbnail in the upper carousel, and the title and first few lines of page/post text. Advanced options allow inclusion of custom thumbnail images, custom text, and custom gallery styles and transitions.

  • Made by Simple Slideshow: A clean and simple slideshow plugin. It’s integrated with WordPress’ gallery, so just install it and start using it instantly. Features a full screen mode for dramatic presentations, adjustable width to fit your design, navigation auto-hides for uncluttered viewing, reverts to WordPress’ built in gallery if a user doesn’t have Flash installed.

A more robust customizable version is availabe for only $9.99.

The two above should fit any need in regard to want to display a series of photos or bring focus on featured content. For more WordPress Slideshow plugins, you can check out the WordPress plugin directory for more.

To save yourself some headaches down the road, as with all plugins, be sure to choose plugins that are compatible with the version of WordPress you are running and that you can see are updated and supported by the developer.

At your service,
Judith
