WordPress How To: Have the WOW Factor!
Sites that have the “WOW! Factor” are those that get attention, repeat visitors, bookmarked, shared, orders, contacts, more business, taken seriously — and that’s a fact!
How do you attain the WOW! Factor with WordPress? To start with you’ll need:
- A theme that shows you care about how you are perceived and relays the personality of the topic of your site. Forget about default themes or free themes with wacky footer links to the developer’s affiliate programs that you cannot remove. Stay away from dark backgrounds — they are hard to read and you want folks to read!
- Incorporate excellent graphics and photography. Clip art is O.K. once and a while, but you need to include a photo or graphic with each post that relays the subject matter and tone. Choose these photos carefully. And don’t forget about a nice complimentary photo of yourself on the About page!
- Be sure to have as many ways for site visitors to bookmark, subscribe and pass along your posts. I recommend FeedBurner for e-mail signups and Sociable for all your social media icons. If possible incorporate into your theme your main “connect” icons on every page. My site has the RSS, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn icons on every page top right above the sidebar.
- Write and link to great content and resources you know your target market/audience is asking about, talking about, looking for. Strive to become “the” site in your niche.
- When you get a comment or e-mail through your Blog be sure you respond pronto! Be friendly, courteous and communicate as though you made it out of the sixth grade. Write in complete sentences that are properly capitalized and check for typos. And always thank them for their e-mail or comment.
The above 5 steps can help you be on your way to having a WordPress Blog/Site that has the WOW! Factor!
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and WOW your visitors!
At your service,
Judith

FYI: I do not approve comments from those who use keywords in lieu of their names. Not only do those comments tend to be self-serving, I prefer to make a real connection with visitors who comment on my Blog -- can't do that with keywords. Please see my comment policy for more ...

I see the great comments you offer over at SS101 and hope you’ll stop by here and give me your POV here too. I have a ton of great articles and posts that you’ll find helpful. I also have WP help sessions on Twitter several times each week (@wpmuse). If you join my new Facebook page, you’ll get a heads up on when those times will be so you can pick my brain or get real-time help with any questions you may have. ;-)
Hi Judith! Thanks for the tips, I think all of them are the basics to get it right. You know? I´ve been following your muse alerts for a while but I haven´t been able to comment them, so I´m really happy to do it in this one :D
Now, let´s put this to good use!
