Where Were You 10 Years Ago?
Just a mere decade ago this online gig was still getting its sea legs. I remember in 1995 when I opened my “Internet Studio” in a sleeping town (not any more) on the IL/WI border — most folks thought I was crazy. At the time, I specifically remember one older gentlemen who opened the front door to my studio and asked “…how long do you think this ‘fad’ would last?” — “Check in with me 10 years from now” I replied with a smile. I wonder if he remembers that conversation?
Do you recall when Google used to actually note the number of pages they indexed on their top search page? That was always a good indicator of how fast the online environment was growing — Google stopped doing that several years ago. I miss that top page tally as I used it quite often as an example to those with new site owners what they were up against in regard to getting found. It was a good reality check.
In honor of their 10th birthday, Google has put up it’s oldest available index from January 2001 noting “1,326,920,000 web pages.” 10 years ago and already Google had indexed 1.3 billion pages! Sort of puts into perspective the sheer volume of competition, noise and distractions getting found in today’s environment entails, doesn’t it?
Why not take a quick trip in the Google way-back machine just for giggles?

Judith
