Social Media Friends: Are they really friends?
In Social Media, clearly the above doesn’t apply to the way the word friend is used to describe business contacts. I see business profiles every day with thousands of “friends” — no way that folks know all those people or would truly call them a true friend. How can you possibly successfully productively network with thousands of people you don’t know? Last week I defined... read more

Tit for Tat on Twitter?
I really don’t expose my personal life on social networking sites. I tend to be all business with a dash (if even that much) of what my hobbies, music and movie interests may be. I know that makes me not the norm because I see folks blending business and personal Tweets on Twitter and on their social pages all the time. Whatever works for you; but to me that’s a very fine line to walk. Think... read more

“All Things Come to Those Who Go After Them!”
That’s my favorite quote from Rob Estes. And boy, does it apply online! Online is not a “build it and they will come” environment. As a matter of fact it is now probably the proportionate opposite. Without any effort, plans or action, you are lucky if you get found. You must think proactive, reactive and aggressive to survive! Attitude is everything! Without a marketing strategy... read more

Thankful for the Evolving Web
At this point in time, in history, I am reminded about how excited I was about technology over 13 years ago when I opened the first little Internet Studio in a sleepy town on the Illinois/Wisconsin border. Much has happened since then. That sleepy town became congested and crazy, technology has evolved at a pace most cannot keep up with and I moved off the grid to a plot of land in Mississippi. So my... read more

Static HTML Sites are Soooo Turn of the Century…
I’ve been Blogging for years. Have 4; with several others on my idea plate. I loved WordPress so much that I turned this very site entirely over to WordPress over 5 years ago. Wish I had done that sooner! I no longer recommend static HTML sites to new clients. I find it difficult to be paid to create something I know will not be effective, be taken as seriously or promote their branding as... read more

We Are All Experts in Training
I receive so many feeds and eZines that there are times I simply don’t have time to even open them all let alone read them all! But I’m an infoholic and do my best to keep on the edge by watching and analyzing the commentary, studies and observations of online marketing “experts.” In doing so, being an expert in training for the entire life of my consulting practice here at... read more

25 Social Media & Networking Sites
It’s a crazy time. You could spend literally most of your time keeping up with social media and networking sites working towards more exposure and networking opportunities. The reality is it is very difficult to keep tabs on all the various “pages”, accounts, friends and networks once they are setup. That is why it is so important to choose those that work best for you and that you... read more

Trust is Gold Online; So is Going Social
Trust is not something you can launch with a Web site. Just as in the off-line world, trust is built with consistency and over time. You can’t “buy” trust; you have to earn it. Search algorithms have trust factors. For example, Google determines trustworthiness of a site by the number and quality of sites that link to a particular site. Although this isn’t the end all be all,... read more
