Poor Rankings? Think About This…
Last week I covered the reality of how Search Engines work with my updated posted on the Ten Commandments of Search Engines. This post has been “out there” for over a decade and I make a point of updating it annually. Funny, though… not so much has changed over this time period. Quality, unique, fresh content will always rule the day. But what if you haven’t understood ranking... read more

Ten Commandments of Search Engines
Many site owners are not aware of the reality of what will be necessary to ensure their target market finds them when searched for and a detailed explanation of the process and what to expect – as well as what not to expect. Unfortunately, many times the spam of easy listings and top 10 positions drowns out the truth of what is required to gain and maintain relevant rankings. In order to have... read more

Where Were You 10 Years Ago?
Just a mere decade ago this online gig was still getting its sea legs. I remember in 1995 when I opened my “Internet Studio” in a sleeping town (not any more) on the IL/WI border — most folks thought I was crazy. At the time, I specifically remember one older gentlemen who opened the front door to my studio and asked “…how long do you think this ‘fad’ would... read more

Let Them Have (SEO) Cake!
Technology is what is is — we can’t change it — we can only go with the flow. Nor can we think that by disregarding certain things or ignoring others that we can expect the same level of success as the rabid aggressive non-relenting Netrepreneurs that thrive online. SEO is that 300 pound gorilla in the room that many talk about, think they know about, even think they are doing when in... read more

SEO is So Easy a Caveman Could Do It?
That’s the impression many have when they contact me to change their “meta keyword tags” so that they can rocket to #1 on Google. To which I quietly think to myself — that’s one smart caveman! I then respond with the comment — “if it were only that easy.” I go on to explain how, after you search for your targeted keywords, look at those numbers in... read more

Flash and Search Engines Still a No Go
The last several weeks have found me explaining, over and over again, even though Google announced is can now index Flash, why I still poo-poo Flash sites when it comes to wanting to gain relevant rankings. I love Flash! Believe me — it’s amazing! And, what some Flash designers can do confirms to me that their brains fire on different cylinders than mine. I’ve dabbled in Flash and... read more

For PPCs; You Need to be a Smartie
This is information technology after all, right? That means you use the information available to you so that you can learn, evolve with technology and understand the variables that can and will affect your outcome — or ROI. Unfortunately, the majority of online businesses seem to be info-phobic. The info is there; they just don’t want to review it. This can be due to informaiton overload;... read more

Google Needs an Intervention!
I usually don’t post on Fridays — that is unless I come across something I just can’t wait to let you know about. I was thrilled to see in writing what I’ve been stating for some time now about Google — Google simply isn’t what it used to be — and not in a good way. (See, my other posts on this topic linked below this one.) From a search marketing POV, Google... read more

With Search Engines Less is More!
I have discussions on the topic of keyword phrases every day. And, if I have just one dollar for every time I had to make a strong point that with search engine rankings less is more — yours truly would be on an island with a satellite dish posting to my various Blogs! Relevancy is defined as “the relation of something to the matter at hand.” Now, how relevant you are is what those... read more

Put on Your Customer Hat!
When I work with clients on their projects, we have to discuss SEO from the start. Search engine optimization is the at the core of and the actual fiber of every site and needs to be seriously considered before a single bit of code is created or modified. I’ve always cautioned clients that when determining and choosing the keyword phrases for their project that they need to put on their customer... read more
