Imagine my delight in seeing one of my newly found fav Blogs, Dosh Dosh typing about those who comment on Blogs without actually adding any value to the conversation. The post covers perfectly the importance of everyone’s participation and what you gain and loose when you do so with the wrong motives.
My article last month Blog Commentsense noted my frustrations and how I determine what posts see the light of day on any of my Blogs. See, I believe comments are valuable and as such need to add to, not detract from, the ongoing conversation. Doesn’t matter if you agree or disagree with me — just talk to me and become part of the discussion!
When I was commenting on Rethinking Blog Comments: Much More Than Just A Quick Way to Get Web Traffic, an analogy hit me. Those who comment only for personal gain or attention are conducive to that snotty-nosed little kid who, when you are having a conversation with their Mother, is pulling on her arm interrupting your conversation. Annoying and in some need of discipline.
When commenting on Blogs keep in mind you are typing to a community and to an author who is honestly open and interested in hearing your POV. If you think you are gaining anything by posting generic comments for personal gain — you are — exposure as just “another snot-nosed brat.”
At your service,
Judith
