No Guessing Allowed: Online Stat Sites You Need to Use
Who is doing what where, how and when? This is not information you have to guess about — you can know! Each of our sites is different with niches, focuses and markets that are unique to our stated goals. That means it behooves you to know what is going on online so that you can make decisions from an informed point of view instead of guessing.
Below are five sites you should utilize on a regular basis to see what your market is up to and what you can do to tap into so that you can tailor your presentation and marketing plans:
- W3Schools Browser Stats: I am always surprised when I look at client Web site statistical data how much browser use will differ between sites based on the makret demographics of the visitors to the site. Knowing what browers are being used to view your site can help you make better decisions when it comes to how browsers render code, applications and scripts. Good to know!
- Alexa Top Sites: It’s wise to know what site are the tops. In the case of Alexa, you can see where onliners frequent most and why you need to concentrate on attaining visibility at these properties. The Top 5 as of the writing of this post are Google, FaceBook, Yahoo, YouTube and Live.com — in that order. Does your business have a solid presence at these sites? If not; hop to it!
- Hitwise Data Center: I like Hitwise because it breaks everything down for you in segments that you can use to get a better handle on your specific market. Top 20 Websites and Search Engines, Featured Industry Stats, Top Industry Search Terms, Top Retail Sites and Search Terms. I just know you can find some data here that applies to your industry that can get you thinking about how to fine tune your program!
- Pew Research Center: Pew is literally the bomb when it comes to Internet stats and a site that I have found invaluable. An example of this is one of their most recent studies on Social Media and Mobile Use; Millennials: A Portrait of Generation Next.
- Internet World Stats: Get your Global view with up to date world Internet Usage, Population Statistics and Internet Market Research Data, for over 233 individual countries and world regions. This is where you can see the “Big Picture.”
When in the history of running a business have business owners had access to this level of rich, valuable, critical data? Never!
