NEW RELEASE! Gotta Have WordPress Bible
UPDATE 05.13.2011: The first release of this book quickly sold out. The new updated version of Digging into WordPress which covers WordPress 3.0 was just made available! If you are serious about using WordPress to it’s full potential, you need this book. Worth the investment!! Get your copy while they last!
Having worked with WordPress for many years, I am always learning new things that I can do with WordPress — or more importantly, what I can tweak or customize to get WordPress or my theme to do what I desire.
I get asked all the time for references and resources where one can go to learn about WordPress (from the inside out) without being techno-babbled, intimidated or just plain old overwhelmed. I’ve lost count of recommendations for a good book to have on hand — not an eBook, a real live old-fashioned book!
Time to Dig into WordPress!
What I am going to introduce you today is not just any book. This is not a WordPress for Dummies or a site owner’s WordPress 101 to learn how to make posts to their site. This book teaches you how WordPress works inside and out — so you can turn WordPress into your own personal workhorse!
This book is what I now call my “WordPress Bible”.
Jeff Starr and Chris Voyer are known for their PDF Version of Digging into WordPress for some time. Calls for a printed version were consistently posted to their site asking them to consider developing a printed version.
They discussed the pros and cons of various publishing approaches, all the while stressing their concern about being able to maintain quality and ease of use in relaying all the great information found in their PDFs. Having published a few books of my own, this is not a fun process or one to be taken lightly. Maybe that is why I know all the dedication and hard work that went into this resource.
I was like a kid in a candy store when my copy arrived and literally only put it down to eat dinner and get a good nights sleep. I devoured all 429 pages in less than 24 hours!
In an easy to understand flow, you are lead from one topic into the next logical step. How WordPress works — how things happen! WordPress is one unbelievably amazing application!
As I turned the last page, I knew this was a book that I would recommend to all my clients. And one that would be on my desk for my reference for a long time to come. A WordPress Book that anyone who is serious about understanding, customizing and using WordPress for the success of their business would need to have on hand.
Now, don’t get sticker shock over the $75 price of this extremely high quality book (which includes the downloadable PDF copy so that you can take advantage of all the link tips contained within). Look at it this way — put a zero after that if you had to pay tuition to be taught all that is contained within.
After devouring the entire book and all the information covered in Digging into WordPress, in my not so humble opinion, this book is a bargain! I am now armed to build the theme that has been in my mind’s eye for some time now!
“Design-wise, Digging into WordPress is a beautiful book: every page of the book is printed with stunning digital-color precision on gloss-finish paper, with each of its 12 chapters color-coded to provide quick and easy navigation. With its large, clear typography, each page is easy on the eyes and easy to read.”
Chris and Jeff’s personalities and sense of humor lighten up some of the details that they know are a bit complex — but at the end of the day, if you follow their lead, you will learn and understand what you need to know to use WordPress to its full potential. And, have some fun in the process!
A sampling of what you will learn:
- How to get things set up right
- Building themes and how they work
- The right way to create multiple loops
- Keeping sites secure and optimized
- Using WordPress as a CMS
- Integrate things like Twitter and Delicious
- Customizing & optimizing the WordPress Comments Area
- Best practices for maintaining a healthy site
- Making the most out of WordPress
- Plus tons more!
Reading Digging into WordPress was a refreshing experience in an arena of resources and books that under deliver, are overly technical boring or have left me disappointed.
If you have always wanted to “dig” into your theme a little deeper to customize or even make your own themes, you would do well to get yourself a copy of this book. You will without a doubt have a better understanding of how to use WordPress to its full potential after Digging into WordPress!
