So You Want Tips to Get Links? How About 63?
You bet you do! I get asked how to go about “getting links” almost every day (that is usually followed by “That’s what Google wants!”). Rarely is my answer to that question welcomed with enthusiasm.
The fact is no one “knows” what “Google wants.” Yes, there are strategies and proven methodologies that over time have proven to improve your rankings with Google and other search engines. But let’s be clear — links are not the end-all-be-all. Inbound links are just one part of the search engine puzzle.
Part of getting the great rankings that some obsess about to the exclusion of all else, has to start with keyword research. Face it — if you don’t know what your target market is using to find a site like yours, how can you possibly expect to rank for those terms and get found? You won’t.
So it should go without saying that getting links is part of keyword research — more than most realize. The folks over at WordTracker, a service I have used and recommend to my clients for keyword research tools, posted a great article that not only puts links into perspective but actually offers 62 Steps to the Definitive Link Building Campaign.
Check out what I just did… By creating a really valuable and informative article, with a title that makes you want to click on it combined with keyword phrases I know from my own experience folks are searching for — allot — Wordtracker (and the author) just got an inbound link from my site.
While the article referenced has 62 tips, why is the title of this post noting 63? Because I have one last tip for you…
#63: Bookmark or print out that article and continually, consistently practice the tips offered. You will without a doubt be pleased with the results. Yes, it will take a bunch of time and even more effort. But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do if you truly want those rankings!
At your service,
Judith
