WordPress How To: 10 Ways to Promote Your Site
Part of the fun of this gig (at least for me) is there are always new and inventive ways to promote your WordPress site or Blog. The key is to make sure you are actively promoting your work by doing some simple tasks on a consistent basis in the first place.
Here are the 10 ways to promote your site or Blog that once you’ve got these down pat, you can then move on to more aggressive and experimental ways to get attention or buzz.
- Install the SEO Plugin of your choice. I use either All in One SEO or HeadSpace. Then, make sure you complete the setup fields for each plugin in detail and on each page and post without fail.
- Integrate a Ping list of the most popular services so that when you add a new post it is widely broadcasted (Settings > Writing).
- Add unique and valuable content on a consistent basis. I try to post on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Sometimes I skip a beat (lately it’s been crazy around here) but I do my best so my readers know when to expect to hear from me.
- Take time to create post titles that are attention grabbing and descriptive of your post’s content while including your main keyword phrase.
- Comment on other Blogs by adding your unique perspective or input. Don’t just comment to comment — add to the conversation. And do your best to use proper grammar and spelling when you do.
- Setup Profiles and Join Social Networks. Even if you don’t plan on being overly active at any given networking site, at least have a presence there by joining and setting up your profile — with a link to your site of course.
- Be as active as you can on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn — or your top Social Media sites of choice.
- Make sure your Blog posts propagate to Social Media sites and then back them up with personal comments and additions directly. Just auto-posting to Social Media sites is not considered being “Social.”
- Listen to what your readers or market are interested in and type about it. List posts such as this one work well –Top 10, Top 5, Top 101, Top 32 — you get the idea. But make sure they are list of value!
- Take your most popular posts, rework and update them and submit them to my favorite article site EzineArticles.com. You get exposure to your site to a whole new group of onliners hungry for articles to post on their sites, and then you get exposure to their audience and a link to your site.
Online is all about the promotion — “build it and they will come” simply doesn’t apply online. Build it and talk it up every chance you get is more accurate! So go promote!
At your service,
Judith
