WordPress How To: Easily Change Your WP Logo

One of the things I get asked most about is on a regular basis is how to change theme logos.

So I thought I’d put together an easy check-list to help you do just that! In just three easy steps you can replace the default logo image of any theme by following these steps.

  1. First we want to determine what your theme’s designated logo info is. Hover your mouse over the theme’s default logo graphic, right click and choose properties. Using my site as an example, Right Click > Properties will tell us:
    • The path/location of the image: http://www.theistudio.com/muse/wp-content/themes/Bold/images/logo.gif
    • The name of the image: logo.gif
    • The dimensions of the image. 970px X 153px
  2. Now that you are armed with the above info, you want to create your own graphic that would be 970px X 153px and then save it a “logo.gif”.
  3. After creating your graphic, use your FTP program or control panel’s File Manager/Upload Tool to upload your version of logo.gif to the specified location: wp-content/themes/Bold/images/logo.gif. By doing so you will replace the default logo.gif with your version of logo.gif. Simple!

There may be times where you want a larger or smaller logo than what your theme naturally includes. At that point you are getting into making some changes in the header.php file and the CSS file which is different with almost every theme.

But if you just want to swap out your logo image from your chosen theme’s default, the steps above can accomplish this for you 1, 2, 3!

At your service,
Judith
