7 Signs You Do Not Resemble a Cheap Watch….

SOME PEOPLE RESEMBLE A CHEAP WATCH. THEY ARE NOT DEPENDABLE.

“It would be unrealistic to expect an inexpensive, mass-produced watch to perform with the same degree of accuracy as a finely crafted Rolex. They are not made with the same quality of materials or with the same craftsmanship. Yet we somehow think that we do not need to give the same attention to our most important asset: ourselves. Don’t leave something as important as your character to chance. Choose the character traits you admire, and work to develop them. Don’t be discouraged when you stumble. Building character is a process that takes a lifetime to complete. Fortunately, like anything else, the more you work at character building, the better you become at it.” ~ Napoleon Hill

The above applies to everything that has to do with your online program. After 16 years here at The IStudio®, the number of cheap watches I run into has increased. Does that mean site owners have less character? Sometimes… What I do know is that I see a lack of desire to acquire knowledge which can proportionately — and dramatically — have an affect on your level of success which is directly tied to how you are perceived.

char·ac·ter: noun

  • the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing.
  • moral or ethical quality

There is an abundance of sites that you cannot depend on. As well as a fair share of cheap looking WordPress Web sites out there. But it isn’t the site’s fault as some of these site owners would have you believe. The site owner is the driving force behind what WordPress and a Premium theme end up looking like. Dependable or fly-by-night?

The site owner makes the decisions on how to tweak the design, how to enter their content, what type of content, how it is written, how to manage visitor inquires and comments, etc. that can ooze character and dependability — or not. Trustworthy or questionable? The site owner is the one who ultimately makes the decisions that will ensure their site gives that critical and necessary Rolex presentation.

So, do you have a Rolex approach or are you more of a cheap watch?

  • Do you embrace every new bit of information that can lend to your site rising above your competitors? Then do you implement and test with that new knowledge to give you an edge? Without this attitude your results are minimized.
  • Do you regularly add useful information and content that your site visitors can use or is your content mostly self-serving? Content should provide value and your unique point of view and personality. Not adding quality content regularly and consistently makes site visitors wonder if you are dependable.
  • Do you audit your site stats regularly looking for clues on how to improve your site?
  • Do you keep WordPress and your plugins updated as necessary or do you stay on older versions becaue you don’t want to deal with updating? It’s easy to update your WordPress site and necessary to keep it secure and running smoothly.
  • Does your site include statements and polices that reflect the ethics and morality of someone who feels character is important to their business? Being clear about how you run your business and what is important to you builds confidence with site visitors. Be wishy-washy with generalities and templated statements doesn’t lend to you being perceived as a site that should be trusted more than your competitors.
  • Do you respond to site comments and visitor inquiries promptly (using your site’s domain e-mail address — not a Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or AOL address) integrating Business E-mail Etiquette Basics when doing so? Prompt, professional and courteous responses blow customers and site visitors away! Trust me on this one — this is a core pillar of my success!
  • Do you make an effort to improve your writing and communication skills? This is ongoing for anyone serious about succeeding. This whole gig is about the written word after all!

If the above is not part of the core of how you run your site — most likely your brand is a cheap watch. The beauty of the Web is it never too late to embrace change. If up until now you have not considered the above, make a commitment to change things now and include these issues in your new Web plan.

Do you strive to be a Rolex or is being a cheap watch good enough for you?

As a newbie to the iStudio, we are thoroughly enjoying (and I personally look forward to) your Muse Alerts! Though provoking, interesting and a true learning tool.

Hopefully our business is a Rolex, but always strives to be that top of the line model :)

    Continued success Judith!
