Facey Pages and Tweety Books a Fad?
Whatever the polar opposite of a fad is — that’s what social media is!
Maybe we have to review what the word social means to put things into perspective:
so⋅cial [soh-shuhl]
–adjective
- pertaining to, devoted to, or characterized by friendly companionship or relations: a social club.
- seeking or enjoying the companionship of others; friendly; sociable; gregarious.
- of, pertaining to, connected with, or suited to polite or fashionable society: a social event.
- living or disposed to live in companionship with others or in a community, rather than in isolation: People are social beings.
- of or pertaining to human society, esp. as a body divided into classes according to status: social rank.
- involved in many social activities
Everyday I preach about being involved and social online — in lieu of thinking that by just having a static Web site “everything will happen” without active, aggressive participation by the site owner.
Rather than being excited, as I am every day that I sit at this keyboard, I hear excuses about lack of time, motivation and commitment to move to WordPress and get involved. Online business is not a spectator sport!
Those who do not embrace social media will be left in the proverbial dust. Watch this video (that actually gave me goose-bumps) and tell me social media is something to be ignored or minimized when it comes to your business’ online marketing strategy.
Still think social media is a fad? Do so as your own peril.
At your service,
Judith
