“If You Are Not Learning; You Are Falling Behind”
That my friends is the reality of doing business online! I’ve been at it 15 years now and still learn something new almost each and every day. Learning can at times be fun while at other times frustrating. But that’s how you learn.
Don’t want to be on a continual learning curve? Then maybe you need to seriously consider if the online business environment is really for you.
Based on my years of experience, I can emphatically tell you the number one cause of most site failures is a lack of desire to learn and keep on learning. For some to even learn the online basics of running and marketing their site seems at times a lesson in futility.
You want to succeed online? Then…
- Learn how to use every feature of your e-mail program. From signature files and stationary to proper Business E-mail Etiquette. Use that little HELP link/tab/area in your e-mail program to learn all the nifty things your program can do to help you be more organized and appear more professional.
- Learn what you need to know to run your business online. From site development costs to hosting, payment processing to eCommerce applications and how they work. This includes understanding the features you must have to be taken seriously and viewed as a legitimate credible online enterprise. Only you understnading these details will allow you to determine what will work best for you.
- Learn what it takes to get great search engine rankings. How can you possibly state that you want top rankings without understanding how they are attained and maintained? How can you claim to desire top of page rankings if you are not willing to do the hard work required to get you there?
- Then, learn the basics of SEO so that as you add and grow your site you have these guidelines and principles naturally ingrained in your head with every keystroke you tap on your keyboard. Optimized content being continually added to your WordPress site is key folks! If you don’t know what you need to consider when creating your content, how can you expect that content to rank well?
- Learn the nuances of online marketing from forums to Blogs to social media. Learn how to participate in a way to not only attract more customers but to help the community at large. By helping and sharing your words of wisdom and expertise in the proper way and venue, you will naturally create interest in what you do and encourage people to hire you to do it.
Finally, know that beyond the basics above, you will run into more things to learn at every corner. And once you learn the basics above, they’ll morph, change, evolve into the next generation of what you need to know — sometimes before your very eyes.
